Trip Map 2012 TexasOur last stop in Texas was just north of Dallas/Fort Worth, in Denton. I must say though, that the trip through the Dallas/Fort Worth area was hair raising. Cars towing trailers, with drivers on the phone, just merge in front of you making you slam on the brakes so that their trailer is not in your front seat. Maybe the mistake was taking I35 West, through Fort Worth. I don’t know if I35 East would have been any better going through Dallas. There probably isn’t any route unless you take some of the spaghetti of roads in between the two.

Our original reservation was at an RV park called Post Oak Place. It was to say, a disappointment. We had reservations for 2 nights, but upon our arrival, could not fit into any of the spaces that were available. The sites were either too short or too close together (to the point where our slides would have extended into the next parking spot). One of the sites had very low hanging branches that would have damaged the rig. When we made the reservations, we were very explicit about the size of our rig, slides and truck(crew cab with a long bed). We have a 41ft 5th wheel and this campground is by no means ‘big rig friendly’. The roads are narrow and overgrown with trees with low hanging branches. In the end, we gave up and went to another campground down the road. I will say that the office staff was very understanding and refunded our deposit without any argument.

Plan B

Just further along the highway was another RV Park that fit the bill, Destiny RV Park, where we stayed a couple of nights. Further along is perhaps a misnomer, as the Destiny RV Park is off of I35 East, so we ended up going further north on I35W to the intersection with I35E and then going south for a bit.

This is a large park with plenty of open space to walk Robbie and Abby. The sites have railway ties on both sides, so getting parked so that the steps didn’t come down on top of one of the ties was a problem. The sites were nice and long so no problem parking the truck.
