the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village are the two most amazing places, I think, that we have been to on our trip this year. We thought the museum would just be cars, but the museum seems to have a mandate to collect anything and everything: farm implements, steam engines, steam IMG_1329IMG_1336locomotives, a CP Rail Diesel and Snow Plow (which is about the size of a small house), presidential limousines (including the one in which Kennedy was riding when he was shot), many planes (including a DC3 hanging from the ceiling), watches, guns, a whole section devoted to things made of silver, an Oscar Mayer Wiener Mobile, a super sized bun with me as the hot dog, the actual bus that Rosa Parks rode in when she refused to give up her seat. I could go on and on. You really need several days to go through just the Museum.

IMG_0950Greenfield Village is at least a day or two on its own. IMG_1352Multiple sections make up the museum; a village from the 1800’s, original Henry Ford workshop, working farm, skilled artisans working in glass/pottery/tin/weaving and more. Not reproductions, but buildings that they have collected and moved to the site, the Wright Brothers Bicycle shop, Edison’s New Jersey laboratory, the oldest steam engine and train that runs a regularly scheduled route, actual Model A buses as are part of it’s transportation system. Model T’s that are available to take a tour of the village. I could go on and on. The place is amazing.

The Eagle Tavern is an old inn that was a stage coach stop and now serves original 1800‘s fare.

The best of my Henry Ford pictures are on the Smugmug gallery
